[Features]
Tantalum, a metallic element found chiefly in tantalite and symbiotic with niobium. Tantalum is of moderate hardness and ductility and can be drawn into thin foil. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is very small. Tantalum has excellent chemical properties and is highly resistant to corrosion. Although tantalum is highly corrosive, its resistance is due to the formation of a stable protective film of tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) on its surface. It does not react with hydrochloric acid, concentrated nitric acid and aqua regia under hot and cold conditions. Can be used to manufacture evaporation vessels, etc., can also be used as electrode, rectifier, electrolytic capacitor of electronic tubes. It is used in medicine to make thin sheets or threads to mend damaged tissue.
